Summary:

The Superlayer is a light weight, breathable jacket that will keep you warm during all of your winter activities.

57815_940_05Functionality ★★★
Outdoor Research has hit the jack pot with their Superlayer jacket! This jacket is made with an active PirmaLoft insulation which is non-migratory. Which apparently doesn’t just apply to birds. Since the insulation doesn’t move around or clump up in the jacket, it is much thinner and lighter than competing jackets. One of the most innovative features of this jacket is how dang breathable it is. No matter how hard you shred, you will never overheat.

Design and Aesthetics ★★★
Whether you’re looking to make a statement or just blend into the background, there is a Superlayer that will meet your needs. It comes in three colors including orange, blue and grey. The PrimaLoft® Silver Insulation Hi-Loft is a water-resistant, durable and highly compressible synthetic insulation that is woven into the inner lining so it doesn’t move around, making it thinner and more breathable. Everything about this jacket is designed to be light and breathable to form a more comfortable mid-layer.

Durability ★★★
Since the Superlayer doesn’t need to be stuffed with puffy insulation, it feels thin and flimsy but, it is made with a highly breathable, nylon outer shell and a polyester woven mesh lining. Outdoor Research gathered up the lightest and most breathable materials on the market and said, “Lets make the most breathable mid-layer on the market. And that’s exactly what they did.

Value ★★★
The one down side about this jacket is that it’s not exactly the cheapest jacket on the market. When something this innovative hits the market, it usually isn’t the most affordable option out there. This being said, I believe that the Superlayer jacket is worth every penny. It isn’t every day when you can put on a jacket and then ride your bike to work and not be sweating once you get there. The Superlayer is like a body thermostat that keeps your core just right no matter how hard you’re riding or skiing or climbing.
