Summary:

Comfortable, lightweight and well ventilated. Having never worn a helmet I was skeptical, but after a run or two I forgot I even had it on.

review_380pocThe POC Fornix helmet was not only comfortable and functional, it matched my jacket perfectly. At least that’s what I was told; I am slightly color-blind.

Most folks I know who wear helmets claim they would feel naked without them (I’ve never skied naked but I’m still a bit skeptical about that claim). I now see what they mean; you can barely tell you have this thing on.

Design and Aesthetics ★★★★
I like the flat Matte finish on the Fornix. An added bonus was it matched my jacket and pants. Notice I said “Jacket and Pants” as men do not wear “Outfits.”

Functionality ★★★★★
I’ve heard some say good fitting helmets are hard to find. Not every head is the same and some fall in between the sizes available. I used an Extra Large sized helmet, and then cranked the knob on the back down to tighten it up. I don’t usually have a big head—okay sometimes—but usually with other hats or helmets, mine isn’t particularly large. The Extra-Large POC worked well with some cranking down. This model comes in XS, S, M-L, XL AND XXL sizes.

Value ★★★★
Priced at $160 retail, the price is higher than some but lower than some. Either way, it’s definitely a quality product. Sure safety is the reason for wearing a helmet on the slope but fit and comfort should come first or you’ll quit wearing it.

Durability ★★★★★
POC applies aramid strings and molds them together with the foam liner, allowing them to develop a lightweight, yet structurally durable helmet that disperses energy over the entire bridge. It’s well ventilated and though it was a cold and windy day and warm afternoon, I didn’t sweat, nor did my ears get cold in the least.

Extras
The vents can be adjusted as well as the helmet’s fit on your head. There are Goggle vents to evacuate steam from your goggles. If you choose black or white, it’ll be shiny but all other colors are a tasty matte finish.
