5 Awesome Products from Outdoor Retailer Winter 2019
Fall and winter to most people mean Thanksgiving and Christmas. To people in the outdoor community, it also means Winter Outdoor Retailer where new and innovative gear is put on display. Top outdoor brands met in Denver to showcase their new creations, and we decided to put together a list of our favorites just in time for some outdoor winter fun. After digging through dozens of new products, here are the ones you definitely need to know about.
Altra Lone Peak 4.0 RSM Waterproof Trail Shoe
Shoes are always a big part of the show at Outdoor Retailer. There were a couple that rose above the clamor. One such pair of shoes comes from Altra. The top-selling trail shoe gets a winter update with a waterproof layer partnering with eVent® to allow for a lightweight, breathable, yet waterproof trail shoe.
Altra founder Golden Harper had this to say about the partnership:“We place eVent’s waterproof fabric on the exterior, so water beads on the outside and doesn’t soak through to make the shoe heavy when exposed to rain, snow and mud. We also welded, not stitched, the eVent material to guarantee waterproof-ness.” Since the waterproof material is on the outside of the shoe, it also keeps your feet from getting too hot. The Lone Peak 4.0 RSM waterproof shoe starts at $150.
Fireside Outdoor Pop-Up Pit
Portability has become a key component in many innovative products in the outdoor industry. Fireside Outdoor definitely saw this opportunity of portability with their new Pop-Up fire pit. The Fire Mesh holds the fire (and ash) off the ground and allows for an incredible amount of airflow to fuel the fire. You can get some extra accessories such as innovative heat shield or a grill top. It’s also extremely lightweight at only 8 pounds. It packs down smaller than a foldable camping chair. Lastly, this was originally designed for the Boy Scouts of America as a Leave No Trace-ready fire pit. Lastly, it is US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management Fire Pan compliant. Just in time for cold weather campouts, the main combo kit retails for $119.95.
ENO Twilights LED Camp Lights
Eagles Nest Outfitters are giving these awesome camp lights an updated design!
The ENO lights are a mainstay in the Gearographer campsite. With updates such as an integrated hanging hook and a water-resistant housing, these lights will add just the right amount fun and ambience to your campout. DRIFT Boards
A finalist for the Outdoor Retailer Innovation Awards, Drift Boards combine “the simplicity of snowshoes, the speed of cross country skis, and the grip of touring skis” into a single package. DRIFT builds their boards from USA-made carbon fiber. The climbing skins on the bottom are semi-permanent and allow users to climb steep ascents while allowing for gliding on flats. The binding can fit with anything from hiking boots to snowboard boots – really any soft boot. Another cool feature found on the bindings is the climbing riser. The riser can be adjusted to your boot as you prepare to hit a steeper ascent. Coming in at 4.75 lb total, DRIFT found a perfect solution for many winter sport enthusiasts, especially backcountry snowboarders. Drift Boards retail for $419.
Xero Shoes Pacifica Shoe
Minimalist shoes have become a mainstay in the outdoor industry. One of the leaders in this area is Xero Shoes. The Pacifica is their latest creation. It contains a wool-blend upper that will keep you warm during these winter months but doesn’t overheat in the summer. Coming in at only 8.6oz in a men’s size 9, the Pacifica is extremely lightweight and packable. Xero Shoes uses a 5mm FeelTrue® rubber sole that’s backed with a 5,000 mile sole warranty…not bad! This could be a go-to travel shoe capable of year-round use. The Pacifica retails for $89.99 and comes in both men and women sizes.
