Amazing Outdoor Events in October
Another month and another set of outdoor events to take part in. And what a beautiful month it is. October welcomes fall weather and spooky holidays, and whether you choose to check out a hot air balloon festival or a fall foliage trail run, you won’t be disappointed this month by all that there is to do:
Bedford’s Fall Foliage Festival – Bedford, Pennsylvania – October 4th – 5th
With events spanning both weekends of the 4th and 11th, this fall festival is kicking off the new season right. With fun and games, as well as antique car displays and murder mysteries to solve, this is one of the most celebrated fall festivals in the month of October. Visit it yourself and fall in love with fall yourself.
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta – Albuquerque, New Mexico – October 4th – 12th
No matter the level of balloon enthusiasm, the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival promises to deliver some of the most family-friendly entertainment all month. With 9 days of colorful skies, including night time glow balloons, this is quite the spectacle to come and see.
2014 Wilderness Challenge Finale – Fayetteville, West Virginia – October 9th – 11th
This annual all-military event promises excitement, adventure, and a healthy dose of good times. Open to specifically military personnel, this event includes rafting, running, and navigating through the beautiful West Virginia countryside in October. Red River Gorge Climber’s Coalition Rocktoberfest 2014 – Lexington, Kentucky – October 10-12th
The Red River Gorge Climber’s Coalition’s largest annual fundraiser, Rocktoberfest 2014 is aiming to bring together everything about rock climbing in Kentucky together. The community, the sport, and the passion will be on display through events like crate stacking, food eating, and complimentary yoga. Warwick Disc Golf Championships – Warwick, New York – October 11-12th
Disc Golf is an ever growing sport, and to see some of that action, head to New York this October for the Warwick Pro/Am Disc Golf Championships. Can you believe it? Snow-season is upon us and there is no better way to celebrate than to head to Arapahoe Basin’s opening day mid-October. With the earliest start to any ski resort in the nation, be the first of your friends to get fresh turns and get ready for the rest of the resorts to follow suit soon after.
Bridge Day – New River Gorge, West Virginia – October 18th
Located at one the longest steel single-span arch bridges in the country, Bridge Day aims to celebrate everything there is to do in the New River Gorge of West Virginia. Whether you are a climber, a boater, a base-jumper, or a spectator of all three, this event with a party to boot is not one to miss.
Pumpkin Holler Hunnerd – Tahlequah, Oklahoma – October 18th – 19th
Strap on those runnin’ shoes for this year’s Pumpkin Holler in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. With options ranging from a simple 25k to a 100 mile race, this event is for the serious runners. And located in the largest privately protected conservation area in the Ozarks, the best motivation you’ll have to keep going is the beautiful scenery. Zombie Charge 5k – Houston Texas – October 25th
For some, a zombie apocalypse is their worst nightmare, for others, it’s a spooky good time, and for all, it’s the best motivation to run just a little bit faster. Take part in the Zombie Charge 5k in Houston and get ready to navigate obstacles, get a little muddy, and dodge members of the undead.
