Ask Gearographer: Loading the car for camping
Dear Geaographer,
My wife and I are headed out for a three day camping trip and she wants to bring everything but the kitchen sink. Actually, she would bring that if she could disconnect it. She brings so much stuff I don’t have room for the important things like firewood and booze. How do I get her to bring less gear?

Dear Overwhelmed,
Mrs. Gearographer used to do the same and no matter what size vehicle we had, she’d fill it up. I’ve learned not to complain over the years because, well, she quit listening to me years ago. Make her load the car and figure out how to fit everything. This won’t prove your case because she will succeed. She may leave your axe, your shovel and your tent at home but I bet that solar powered margarita machine will be awesome in the wild.
