Gerber ComplEAT Cutting Board Set
A Night on the Buffalo with the Gerber ComplEAT Cutting Board Set
A few weekends ago, I packed up for a quick overnighter out at the Buffalo National River. It wasn’t anything too crazy, just a short hike in, campfire cooking, and some time to unplug by the water. But even for a simple trip, I like to keep my gear dialed, especially my camp kitchen setup. That’s where the Gerber ComplEAT Cutting Board Set came in. I’d been eyeing it for a while, and finally gave it a shot on this trip. Gotta say, it definitely helped keep things tidy when I was prepping dinner and breakfast. I was just making some basic camp tacos that night, and then a breakfast scramble in the morning, but having this set made it all feel a little more like home… well, minus the fridge and oven, obviously.

Design & Aesthetics
First off, the set looks pretty slick. It’s got this low-key, utilitarian vibe that fits in great with the rest of my gear. It comes in a dark, earthy color scheme, kind of a charcoal gray with a slight greenish tint to the case, that doesn’t scream “look at me,” which I like. The whole thing packs together into a slim rectangle that has a nice bit of structure to it without being bulky. The included board is a good size for a solo trip or cooking for two. It doesn’t look flashy, but it’s thoughtfully laid out and doesn’t take up much room in the car.

Functionality in the Field
Alright, here’s where this thing shines. The cutting board is compact but big enough to slice up onions, peppers, and some chicken without feeling cramped. It’s got a non-slip base, which was solid on the picnic table I used, even when things got a bit wet. I really appreciated the option of having a wooden and polypropylene cutting board to give me more working space. Along with two boards, there’s even an internal pocket inside the case for keeping your utensils and spices, which keeps things from rattling around in my pack.

Durability
It’s not heavy-duty like your home cutting boards, but it’s solid for what it is. The board feels like a tough plastic that’ll hold up to years of camping use without warping or cracking. The included pairing and chef knife came out of the box sharp and, while not extensively tested, are still in perfect condition. I think with a little care of the boards and the included knives, this thing will last me a long time. Honestly, for camp use, this thing is built just right, durable without being overbuilt.

Value for the Price
At $117, it’s not exactly a steal, but I think it hits that sweet spot between quality and price. You’re getting two cutting boards, two knives, and extra storage; that’s not bad. Could you make do with some random kitchen stuff thrown into a bag? Sure. But this thing keeps everything compact and organized, and that makes camp cooking way less of a hassle. For someone who camps more than once or twice a year, I’d say it’s worth it. If you’re a “cook everything over a stick” type, maybe skip it.

Final Thoughts
All in all, the Gerber ComplEAT Cutting Board Set made my little Buffalo River overnight a smoother, more enjoyable experience. It’s compact, lightweight, and honestly just makes camp cooking feel a bit more civilized. I’d recommend it for folks who like to actually prep food when they’re out in the woods, whether that’s just slicing up some veggies or going full-on gourmet at the fire ring. It won’t replace your home kitchen, but it definitely makes the camp kitchen way more manageable.
