Review: DZR Cove
Functionality ★★★★★
The DZR Cove is an incredible shoe. It not only SPD compatible, but it also doesn’t look like you’re wearing clown shoes if you ride to the store or coffee shop. They are extremely comfortable and you would never guess just from looking at them that you can clip them into your SPD pedals. I have ridden these shoes every day for about a month and I can’t think of anything bad to say about them. I ride to work every day and I’ve ridden them so hard that I snapped a chain clean in half, but the shoes are still running strong.
Design and Aesthetics ★★★★
The Cove is designed to have a vintage look and come with two pairs of laces and you can use either one depending on which style you like better. They aren’t very flashy like some of the other biking shoes on the market but I think that may have been what DZR wanted. A simple, biking shoe that you didn’t even know had SPD cleats on the bottom.
Durability ★★★★★
They are made with a canvas and synthetic upper and a flannel lining. The canvas that DZR uses is very high quality and when I first got them, I actually thought that it was leather. The Cove is built to deal with whatever you decide to throw at them. Whether that be occasional use just walking around downtown or daily sprints on your fixie. They take the punishment and look good doing it.
Value ★★★★★
When you consider that a premium pair of cycling shoes can cost upwards of $200, you realize how much of a deal you are getting when you only pay $105 for these bad boys; and most of those shoes aren’t going to look anywhere near as good as the DZR.
