SHOT Show 2018: Some of My Favorite Gear

SHOT Show is the world’s largest gun trade show. While the 630,00 square foot convention center is filled to the brim with tactical and military gear there is also a plethora of hunting, fishing and general outdoors gear.

We spent the course of the week sorting through as much as possible and show our favorite products from the floor. Hard to wrap it all up in one short offering, but we think you’ll enjoy the finds.

Sitka Delta Waders
Customers have anxiously awaited the Sitka Delta Wader, and now it’s here. The 4-layer Gore-Tex base is cut for articulation and ease of movement while buseling around setting decoys and getting set up. The sweat that builds is easily passed through the gore membrane to keep you comfortable while waiting for the birds to show up. The waders will be available in Marsh or Timber and offer zip or non-zip versions.

The highlight of this new waterfowl product from Sitka is the repair options. Hardcore waterfowlers generally throw away waders every season, the Delta Waders are completely serviceable. Sitka partnered with Kokatat, a renowned whitewater product manufacturing company based in California to create a fully repairable wader, down to replacing the attached Lacrosse Aeroform boots. This is an industry first. Spend up front with the waders coming in at $849 for non-zip and $949 for the zip model, but don’t be surprised to get a decade of use.

Winchester Deer Season XP Copper Impact Bullet

Following on the success of the XP bullet, the XP Copper Impact makes an entrance to the market at SHOT ’18. The copper bullet features a hollow point tip filled with a reinforced polymer tip. Lead takes a back seat in this bullet.

The rapid expanding copper round works wonders with penetration power. The combination makes a deadly combination for whitetails and muley’s alike. You have the choice of .243, .270, .30-06, .308 and .300 costing just under $30 for a box.

CZ USA Supreme Field

This classy O/U is the newest shotgun in the CZ USA offerings. This field oriented gun comes with stunning Turkish Walnut wood. For the price point, I didn’t lay eyes on a better option. The nickel receiver is decorated with hand engraived etchings that give the metal a great contrast.

The Supreme Field is light enough to be carried comfortably and includes 5 options of extended chokes for ease of changing in the field. The single trigger sends either 12, 20 or 28 gauge shells through, depending on the model of your preference. And lastly, the ejectors send your spent shells quietly through the air for ease of reloading quickly when the birds are flushing. MSRP will be $1,699.

Danner Women’s Wayfinder Boot

Danner set out to create their first boot that is specifically designed for a woman. The cut and feel all are specifically built out for the adventurous backcountry women that prefer breaking trail. The boot comes in a non-insulated and 400G Thinsulate option, depending on your needs.

The boots feature the Danner Dry waterproof membrane inside of the durable suede and nylon upper. The Pyolite midsole from Danner gives support and comfort while blazing trails and the aggressive Wayfinder outsole locks your backcountry footing in place. The boots will be available in a solid brown or Mossy Oak Break-Up Country pattern. Price will vary from $139.95 or $149.95 depending on your insulation choice.

Huntego Cleanshot
Ever shot your gun to clean it? Me either. The Huntego Cleanshot has created and brought to market the first self-cleaning shotgun shell. The shell starts off like most shotguns shells do, with a payload filled with BB’s. Underneath in the plug section is a high-density cleaning pads that scrub debris on the way out the barrel. The pads are followed by two squeegeess that wipe the bore clean for a smooth finish.

While only offering a 12 gauge selection, they plan to expand the line in the near future. This includes 20, 28 and 410 gauges as well as popular handgun and rifle cartridges. In the field chasing birds or busting clays at the range, toss the Huntego in as the last round and put your favorite shotgun away clean every time. A Cleanshot 4-pack goes for $8.99.

Benchmade 1500ORG Altitude

Benchmade introduces a Public Lands friendly blade at SHOT show. The 1500ORG Altitude is a new creation built out for the backcountry hunter taking a stab at the replaceable blade market. Blade is built of CPM-S90V steel and the retention stands up to 5 of the scalpel style blades that have become popular, which is more than enough to cape out a bull elk.

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, a non-profit organization fighting for public lands,  will receive a portion of proceeds. Another partner in the project is First Lite, with the kydex sheath available in their Fusion camo pattern. With the blade and sheath coming in under 3 oz, it’s a perfect addition to the weight conscious backcountry hunter. The Benchmade Altitude retails for $230.
